A Study on the Factors Affecting the Degree of Job Satisfaction of Korean Medical Technologists

Abstract
This study was carried out to assess the factors affecting the degree of job satisfaction of Korean Laboratory Technologists. Questionnaires were distributed to 639 subjects of 23 medical institutions out of the total of 1,427 persons in Seoul. Among them, 505 persons (79%) (233 males and 260 females) responded in the month of May, 1986, and the data were analysed through SPSS and Pearson correlation.
The major findings are as follows:
1. Regardirg the motive of choosing the career of medical technologists, 4300 responded that they were advised by their friends and relatives while 21. 10o said that they picked up the job to utilize their e:lucation and specialties.
2. The degree of satisfaction varies greatly by see; of the respondents. The male respondents were satisfied v ith the job only among 2¢¥¢¥.. 2 0 while among fe :.ale respondents 46.9% were -satisfactory as they explicitly responded to a question "are you satisfied with the job of medical technclogist¢¥"
The main reasons for the dissatisfaction with t1 he job were "no bright future (25.80), lack of social recognition (9.9%), poor salary (8.910) and so forth.
4. When 18 related factors were give to to rated at 5 point scale, sense of responsibility received an average point of 4. 2, the highest one which was followed by relationship between colleagues (3.4 point), technical aspect(3.4 point), and the employment system of the medical technologist whereas the other 14 items were all rated dissatisfactorily.
5. Tdhen the related factors are tabulated by Pearson correlation coefficient, the variablesthat appeared to be statistically highly significant at 1 percent level were pride (0.30), technology (0. 18), social recognition(0.22), salary (0.32), promotion (0. 19), autonomy (0. 15), and carreer develcpme^t aspect(0.19). This results indicate that the horean medical technologists are more concerned with such, social factor as pride, social recognition career development,and promotion in addition to the salary level in relation to the job satisfaction.
